LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)—Local business owners in Downtown Lafayette say the Fresh Air Eats promotion is helping keep them afloat during COVID-19. It's a new outdoor dining option for customers during this time. This is the second weekend for restaurants to replicate the idea other cities such as Indianapolis are doing.

Many of the eating establishments downtown don't have the space to properly social distance in order to operate at 75% capacity.

Co-Owner of Bistro 501 Mary Buckley said doing this gives her hope that she can get through the rest of the year.

"Last weekend was phenomenal, better than we expected," said Buckley. "We knew it was going to be a great experience. But we didn't realize how well it would be received."

Owner of Lafayette Brewing Co. co-signed and said this has truly helped business out.

"Restaurants in particular have really taken it on the chin during the course of the pandemic," said Embig. "It's nice to see people be able to get together and come out safely and enjoy independent restaurants and support local small business."

Fresh Air Eats will run through October 4th. Times are Friday 4pm - 10pm, Saturday 9am - 10pm and Sunday 9am - 9pm.
