freshtastesignFresh Taste Produce offers commercial and independent partners with a wide variety of high-quality produce from around the world throughout the entire year. Operating in Canada, the company is a major importer, packer and distributor of fresh produce with a world-renowned reputation.

“Our company has a deep history in produce. We have been in this industry for over six generations,” said Christian Sarraino, chief procurement officer at the Toronto-based company.

“As a result, we have many deeply rooted international relationships. These partnerships have helped us build a strong supply chain allowing us to provide our commercial and independent customers with the best product throughout the year.”

The company is directly involved in all aspects of the growing and shipping of its offshore products, taking ownership of the crops pre-production, which enables workers to accurately coordinate and integrate the flow of reliable and detailed information pertaining to all aspects of the product.

This includes transit time, product readiness, and traceability direct to source.

Being in Toronto, those are important elements for success.

“Toronto is very food driven,” Sarraino said. “We are constantly chasing the latest food trends while paying homage to the classics. We are fortunate to be one of the most multicultural cities in the world. The commodity spectrum has grown over the years to allow for seamless transitions on a much broader list of items annually that appeal to all ethnicities.”

Fresh Taste’s relationships with growers is also a secret to long-lasting success.

“It is mandatory that our growers use only the most sophisticated and efficient production techniques available, and that together, we commit to practicing food-safety programs throughout every phase of the growing and shipping process by enforcing voluntary and regulatory inspections of products and procedures,” Sarraino said.

Although Canada is faring better than the United States during the pandemic, the country still has many of the same concerns and fears about the coronavirus. That’s why Fresh Taste worked hard to ensure the company did all that was necessary to keep a safe environment.

“Fortunately, our practices always include food-safety as a top priority,” Sarraino said. “We have added additional health and safety procedures which are over and above normal practice in order to maintain a safe and operable work environment for our employees and customers throughout this time.”

However, he admitted COVID-19 definitely brought forward many new challenges for all businesses.

“It really shows how important of a sector we work in,” Sarraino said. “Watching our entire industry unite to maintain the supply chain when the world was in need was a reminder of how vital of a role we all play.”

While this has necessitated some changes to business, Fresh Taste is still going strong and adjusting to new trends in the industry.

“Given the world-wide situation with COVID, packaged goods seem to be trending at the moment,” Sarraino said. “Packaged product gives the consumer a sense of comfort due to less handling involved by others at a retail level.”

Fresh Taste has a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise to design and implement many different programs, based on the individual needs of its customers, such as offering lid-pricing or specialized pack sizes, and as a result of holding exclusive deals with numerous growers, it is able to guarantee availability.

“We are also becoming a very green company,” Sarraino said. “We have invested in the latest technologies throughout our facilities to help streamline our operations while limiting our overall environmental footprint.”
