WESTFIELD — Big Y Foods Inc. is celebrating the opening of its 12th Big Y Express Gas and Fresh Convenience Market at 330 East Main St.

The convenience store is across Route 20 from Big Y’s World Class Market.

Big Y said it has been a part of the Westfield community since opening a supermarket on Silver Street in 1965. The Express is the chain’s third current location in Westfield. The others are a newly remodeled World Class Market at 1 East Silver St. and the grocery store at 175 East Main St.

The first Big Y Express opened in 2013 in Lee.

The 2,000-square-foot Big Y Express in Westfield has two pumping positions with 87, 89 and 93 octane gasoline and diesel. A free air machine is available for tire inflation.

Additional amenities include the Wide Awake bean-to-cup coffee bar, fresh muffins and doughnuts, grab-and-go salads and sandwiches, heat-and-eat entrees and breads, and Uno individual pizzas.

As in the supermarkets, Big Y Express supports locally produced items such as Whip City Jerky from Westfield and Harmony Springs Soda from Ludlow.

By next spring, Big Y will open an outdoor seating area adjacent to the store. Electric car charging stations are also available.

Big Y Express is open every day from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Fuel discounts are available for myBigY members: 5 cents a gallon with the card and additionally up to 25 cents per gallon based upon grocery purchases at any Big Y market.

Store manager Isaac Miranda started as a part-time cashier for Big Y. Having managed several other Big Y Express locations, he brings a wealth of experience to the new Westfield store, the company said.

“We are always looking to bring our customers even more, especially during this challenging year,” said Big Y President and CEO Charles L. D’Amour. “We are excited to not only help our customers save on their fueling needs but also make life easier by offering fresh convenience items that our customers can grab on the run. Each Big Y Express showcases our expertise in food and service along with fuel savings for all.”

Big Y has almost 12,000 employees and operates 85 stores throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut, including 71 supermarkets, Fresh Acres Market, Table & Vine Fine Wines and Liquors, and 12 Big Y Expresses.

The company was founded in 1936 by brothers Paul and Gerald D’Amour. It is named after an intersection in Chicopee where two roads converge to form a “Y.”
