That mask you're wearing to protect others from COVID-19 transmission might not be doing much to protect you from, well, yourself. Now it can be fitted with a small clip that can be filled with a scented gel.

Dr. Mark Pizzini, an anesthesiologist and professor of clinical anesthesiology in critical care at the University of Pennsylvania, designed the innovation five years ago to use in surgical masks.

"There can be lots of challenging scents in the operating room," Pizzini said. "I thought it would be great to have some way to cover up those scents. About the same time, the nurses in the recovery area were using aromatherapies to help patients with nausea and anxiety, and I thought this would be a great pairing of the ideas."

Necessity is the mother of invention, and that's how the ScentClip was born. His company, Aroxel Corp, makes the clips in two colors, purple and red.

"It's a small recyclable plastic device that has a clip on it that fits into nearly any mask. It also contains a well, which holds the matrix that the combination of the oil and scents are placed to give a slow release very close inside the mask to the nose."

It comes in two scents, apple orchard and periwinkle lavender. He says each pod lasts for up to three weeks, and they're available on Amazon.
