PARMA, MI -- Jennifer Poynter has her hands full.

The mother of three also owns GG’s Cafe in Parma, which opened in November 2019 in the same location her grandmother, Lana Putnam, owned and operated the Parma Cafe for 30 years.

“I like to bake,” Poynter said. “My grandma was the cook and I learned a lot from her, but baking is definitely my passion.”

GG’s Cafe features homemade cinnamon rolls, scones, fresh baked breads, coffee cakes and muffins. Breakfast and lunch also are available, and a highlight on the menu is the Antiquers Stack featuring biscuits, sausage gravy, hash browns and scrambled eggs. (Check out the photos to see it.)

“I like to feed people,” Poynter said. “Grandma did it for 30 years and I want to follow in her footsteps.”

GG’s Cafe gets its coffee locally roasted from Fortress Coffee in Jackson and grind it in house. Specialty coffee drinks, like lattes, are available, as well as smoothies.

The coronavirus pandemic caused Poynter to switch to family-style dinners to go fairly quickly.

“That was what really took us through the entire last year,” Poynter said. “To be able to just accept the changes and go with the flow.”

Family-style dinners to go are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The restaurant also offers a fish fry on Fridays.

GG’s Cafe, 110 W. Main St. in Parma, is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Call 517-531-5864. For more information visit https://www.facebook.com/ggsofparma/
