What a breath of fresh air! That’s how I felt about two letters to the editor in The Transylvania Times of Thursday, June 10: One entitled “Fingers Crossed” by Susan Sunflower; the other by Richard Woodhull, entitled “On a Positive Note.” Reading these letters did my heart good in light of the pain of the pandemic, the riots of Jan. 6, and recent shootings of children.
Sunflower appreciates Mr. Lanier’s editorial about the Tulsa Massacre, an injustice long ignored. She expresses hope that the sale of The Times will not adversely affect coverage of such difficult issues. She is crossing her fingers.
Woodhull is a writer after my own heart. Without sounding like a Pollyanna, he stresses the importance of having a positive attitude toward life, especially since we all live in Brevard, which, (to Woodhull and me, at least) is a little bit of heaven.
This feeling of being blessed by a moderate climate, beautiful forests and rivers, breathtaking mountains, and small-town friendliness is confirmed by my recent move to College Walk, another bit of heaven. My apartment is adorable with its own thermostat. The residents are friendly and interesting, and the food is delicious, but more important, nutritious (cheers to the chefs). My heart is full of gratitude for all those who have helped me find my “home” at College Walk.
Albert Einstein once said, “The most important decision we can ever make is the one to decide that the universe is friendly.”
Yes, a positive attitude reaps positive results. For me, everything has fallen into place. As the Bible says in the book of Ecclesiastes, “There is a time for every purpose under heaven.” I have decided my time to be happy is now.
Thanks to Woodhull for saying it better than I could. He writes beautifully.
