Mother-daughter duo take fresh to next level with Great Harvest Bakery Cafe - Tyler Morning Telegraph

A mother-daughter duo is redefining the meaning of fresh with their new restaurant, Great Harvest Bakery Café in Tyler.

After a conversation about opening a restaurant around this time last year followed by a trip to the Great Harvest Headquarters in Montana, Liz and Laura Jones, both of Bullard, officially opened their doors on June 11.

Daughter Laura Jones said the family grew up on Great Harvest bread in Alaska and respected the company’s mission.

“We have very fond memories of Great Harvest from our time in Alaska, where I grew up. We absolutely loved the cinnamon chip and white-chocolate cherry bread, which I assure you we’ll bring to Tyler this holiday season,” Laura Jones said. “The organization is built on a foundation of giving generously to the community and creating high quality handcrafted baked goods that are nutritious and taste delicious. They truly believe in using quality ingredients, baking fresh every day, which aligned well with our values.”

Laura Jones said the restaurant is unique in several ways. For one, their whole wheat flour is made daily there in the shop. They use wheat berries from the golden triangle of Montana, and they are stone-ground on a Meadows mill to produce 100% whole wheat flour. That flour is then cooled and used the next day for their honey whole wheat and other wheat-based breads. She also emphasized that a loaf of bread will not sit on their shelves more than 24 hours.

“Great Harvest is the only location in East Texas that stone mills our own fresh whole wheat flour to keep the nutrients and bake it into the bread. Our breads are one-of-a-kind; we’re always providing the best products with the best flavors. In addition we’ve made a commitment to quality fresh ingredients,” she said. “Our atmosphere is also fun and unique in that we have an open concept where our guests can watch the bread making process.”

When asked why the duo chose Tyler for the location of the restaurant, Laura Jones was quick to respond. Their bakery is located at 6621 S. Broadway Ave.

“South Tyler is a growing part of town and the South Broadway corridor is the perfect location for commuters to stop for coffee and a bacon biscuit on the way to work, or swing by for a scone and sandwich on the way home. It is also conveniently located to a large area for lunch meetings or to grab a bite on the go,” she said. “We were blessed to find a phenomenal location which we think is perfect for our clientele.”

Menu items include breakfast sandwiches and biscuits that feature whole eggs, fresh cooked bacon or ham, and a variety of toppings, multiple soups and salads, both cold and hot sandwiches, baked goods, and of course, their specialty breads. The restaurant also sells several gift items, including coffee mugs, specialty salts, cutting boards and more.

For dog lovers, the restaurant offers homemade dog treats. The Joneses make them in the bakery using only natural ingredients and their fresh milled wheat flour.

Laura Jones said the restaurant is a dream come true for her and her mother and she couldn’t be more excited to bring Great Harvest to Tyler.

“Great Harvest is a locally owned, family run business under a freedom franchise built specifically to fill a niche in the Tyler community. We provide handcrafted meals and goodies using only the freshest ingredients. Our goal is to provide great tasting selections which satisfy the taste buds and keep you coming back for more,” she said.

Restaurant hours are Monday through Friday 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 903-630-3094 or visit www.greatharvesttyler.com.
