Members of Made Fresh Crew, a collective of Santa Cruz artisans who collaborate on projects, on Sunday repaint the Black Lives Matter mural on Center Street in front of Santa Cruz City Hall. Following Saturday’s large Juneteenth celebration at Laurel Park, many people came to “Honoring Juneteenth” on Sunday at City Hall. Sunday’s event included music, poetry, speakers, and round-table discussions featuring activists, leaders, and artists of the local Black community. The event was organized by the SC Equity Collab, a co-led initiative sparked by 2020’s energized racial justice movement and founded around the creation of Santa Cruz’s Black Lives Matter street mural which was conceived by artist and activist Abi Mustapha.
